There are two good ways to backup in Outlook and Outlook Express. One is for regular backup of Outlook Express 6 .wab. The others are for backup, import and export into different applications,databases or email programs.. I have tutorials to help you out !

 

BACKUP IMPORT and EXPORT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES using only OUTLOOK EXPRESS
*This is the easiest and can be used if you are just
doing backup or Import and Export in Outlook Express
. Its also easy to check your backup.
(It opens as Outlook Express Address book) .wab

EXPORT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES from OUTLOOK EXPRESS
*I used text (.txt) in this backup because it will work in most applications

TROUBLSHOOT PROBLEMS


BACKUP your EMAIL ADDRESSES from OUTLOOK EXPRESS

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click FILE (top left)
  3. Click EXPORT
  4. click Address book

  5. *On the Address Book Export tool page
  6. Click on Tex File (Comma Separated Values)
  7. click on EXPORT

  8. *On the CSV export page
  9. Click BROWSE

  10. In the Save as page
    Go down to the "File Name:" box
  11. type in Your addresses

  12. Below that in "Save As Type:" box
  13. click on the arrow and select Text files(*txt)
  14. click SAVE

  15. *Back to the CRV export page
  16. Click NEXT
  17. Put a Checkmark in the Boxes you want
  18. Click FINISH
  19. click Close
Now you have all your addresses backed up in Outlook Express you can use for backup on a Floppy or Disk or import it to another computer. This is the best method for me (.txt) because its can be used to import almost any program w/o typing it all... almost. I hoped it helped you.


IMPORT Your Backup Addresses into OUTLOOK EXPRESS

    One common problem is trying to Import from a CD ROM
    You MUST first Cut and Paste Backup to your hard drive

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. click FILE (top left)
  3. click IMPORT...
  4. click Other Address Book

  5. *On the Address Book Import Tool page
  6. click on Tex File (Comma Separated Values)
  7. then click on IMPORT

  8. On the CSV Import page
  9. click BROWSE

  10. *On the Open page
    In the Save as type: box towards the bottom
  11. click on the arrow
  12. click on Text Files(*txt)

  13. In the look in: box towards the top
  14. click on the arrow

  15. and locate the folder where Your Addresses are.
  16. click on Your Address to highlight it
  17. click OPEN

  18. Back to the CSV import page
  19. click NEXT
  20. put checkmarks in the boxes you want
  21. click FINISH

BACKUP EMAIL ADDRESSES from OUTLOOK

  1. Open Outlook

  2. left click File

  3. left click Import export

  4. On the Import and Export Wizard page
  5. left click on Export to a file
  6. left click Next

  7. On the export to a file page
  8. left click TAB separated files(Windows) its the last selection
  9. left click Next

  10. left click Contacts
  11. left click Next
  12. left click Browse
  13. locate destination folder
    ( probably My documents?)
  14. Right click Empty space in folder
  15. left click New
  16. left click Text document
  17. The next move is to put your curser on top of new text document.txt
    Left click to highlight new document.txt
  18. right click and select Rename
  19. Name your File Your addresses.txt ? (You name it)
  20. left click OK
  21. left click next
  22. left click Finish


IMPORT ADDRESSES into OUTLOOK

Import your file.txt

    One common problem is trying to Import from a CD ROM

  1. Open Outlook
  2. left click File
  3. left click Import and export
  4. left click Import from another program or file
  5. left click Next
  6. left click TAB separated values(Windows)
  7. left click Next
  8. left click Browse
  9. (locate your file.txt)
  10. left click Next
  11. (Default)Allow duplicates to be created
  12. left click Next
  13. left click Contacts
  14. left click Next
  15. left click Finish

Export Yahoo Address book

  1. Open Yahoo Address Book

  2. Find the Import/Export link towards the top on the right
  3. click on Import/Export

  4. On the Import and Export page
    Scroll down to the Export section
    On the line
    Microsoft Outlook:
  5. click on Microsoft Outlook

  6. Note: You can use your Addresses.txt
    from Outlook Express or Outlook
    on the;
    File Download page

  7. Click on Save

  8. On the
    save as page:

  9. Locate the folder you want
  10. to save it in
    On the
    save as: line
  11. Rename it Your addresses

  12. On the
    File type: line
  13. click on the arrow
  14. click on all files
  15. click on Save


Import Address book into Yahoo

  1. Open yahoo Address Book

  2. Find the Import/Export link towards the top on the right
  3. click on Import/Export

  4. On the
    Import and Export
    page
    Note: Import is at the top of page
    On the
    Choose a program to import contacts from:
    line
  5. click on the arrow
  6. click on Microsoft Outlook(.csvfile)

  7. Note: You can use your Addresses.txt
    from Outlook Express or Outlook
    On the
    Specify the file to import
    : line
  8. click browse
  9. Find your addresses.txt
  10. Double click your addresses.txt
  11. (two quick left clicks)
    The location address to your addresses.txt
    should be in the box to the left of the browse button on the Yahoo Import and Export page
    In the
    Press Import Now to Import the file:
    line
  12. click on the Import button

TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS

If you have Different versions of Outlook express (Like 5 and 6)
and are having problems. Either Update both versions to outlook Express 6 or
go to go to understanding Comma Delimited to make adjustments.

To Check your version of Email

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click on help
  3. Click on About Outlook... Express
  4. To Update for free go to Microsoft Update Click here
